Myrtle Beach-Day 1

Hey there!

I just got back from the beach last night and man I am missing it so much already. I had a great time but wish it hadn’t of gone by so quickly!

Sunday morning my dad and I packed up our rental car and headed out around 9. The drive to Myrtle Beach from our house is about 8-9 hours so we knew we had a long day ahead of us.  I packed a lot of healthy snacks for the road: trail mix, fruit, protein bars, etc. But I don’t really know if that was a good thing or not…road trips always seem to make me really hungry. Probably because I’m just bored, but I felt like the whole way there I couldn’t stop snacking!

There's a town called Gaston! Although I don't think it's pronounced the same way as in Beauty & the Beast, the Disney nerd in me was still very excited about this :)

We packed our lunch for the road so we didn’t have to stop which was nice.  But we did certainly stop for Mcdonalds sugar free vanilla iced coffees! OMG Have you ever tried one? I think I’ve written about them before but they are literally the worlds best iced coffee ever to exist.  I mean I work at Starbucks and I would choose Mickey D’s over Sbux any day. It’s that good. So we got our iced coffee fix and I drove for like 45 minutes….I would have driven more but I have a bladder the size of a lima bean so yeah. Sorry dad! 😉

One stop I had been looking forward to on this trip was to South of the Border!! If you’ve never heard of it, it’s basically a tourist trap on the side of the road that’s a little below the border between NC and SC.  My dad however was loathing stopping here because well, it’s not the cleanest place in the world! It’s pretty much a dump but you cannot travel south and not stop there in my opinion! We looked in one of the gift shops for about 10 minutes but didn’t buy anything. Then it was time to hit the road again.

After South of the Border we were only about 75ish miles away from Myrtle Beach.  The road we took though to go east seemed to last foreverrrr. I’m not a fan of scary movies, but if you’ve ever seen Jeepers Creepers, this road reminded me of it a little too much.  It was so desolate I felt like we were going to pass the old church with the tube out front at any second. haha Anyways after what seemed like eternity, we finally arrived in Myrtle Beach!

The hotel we stayed at was located in North Myrtle Beach so luckily we didn’t have too far to go once we entered the city. We stayed at a Best Western which was right on the beach, the hotel looked pretty nice so I was excited! Well…I spoke too soon.  This hotel owned 3 different buildings and the one we were staying in was a few buildings down.  After we checked in, we went to our room and pretty much the only way to describe the room is that it was a dump!  It wasn’t horrible, but it definitely was low on the list of hotels we’ve stayed at.  My dad got the king size bed while I had the lovely (uncomfortable) pull out sofa bed.  The bathroom was so incredibly tiny, the sink itself was probably the size of my dogs water bowl. No lie. But since we could literally walk downstairs and be on the beach in about 20 feet, I guess we couldn’t complain too much!

Ugh I'm missing this view already.

After we got settled in it was already around 7:00 so we figured we should head out in search of some dinner.  Myrtle Beach is filled, I mean filllled, with tons of seafood buffets and steak houses.  Neither of which my dad and I really care for.  So after searching for awhile and not really finding anything that sounded good, I remembered a restaurant we went to a lot last time we were in Myrtle, Salsaritas.  We set off in search of it and found it pretty easily.  Salsaritas is kind of like Moes or Chipotle but in my opinion it’s a little better! It’s really simple to order, you just choose a quesadilla, tacos, salad, or burrito and pick what you want in it.  No fussy names like Moes has haha! I got a chicken quesadilla and it tasted great.  Since I usually get salads at those kinds of places I knew I wanted something different since it was vacation 😉

After our dinner, we drove up and down the main drag of Myrtle Beach going into probably about 15 different beach stores.  Eagles, Wings, Bargain Beachwear, you name it, we went into one! They of course all have the same stuff but it’s kinda fun to look at, especially to get you into the beach spirit.

After shopping a bit, it was getting pretty late so after a long day of traveling we called it a night!

I’ll be back with Day 2 soon!

Lately.

Hey there!

It’s officially vacation time for me!! Woo hoo!

After opening Sbux this morning and getting up at 3:20am, I’m looking forward to not working for awhile 😉

So this week was pretty fun!

-Last weekend my mom and I had a girls weekend-we had a blast! Saturday night we rented Gangster Squad (LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie!!!!) cooked up some salmon and drank some Strawberitas. The Strawberitas had an interesting flavor, I liked that they were fizzy and slightly sweet, but the beer flavor is something I’m not really a fan of too much.

-We also went to Wolf furniture and goofed around a bit while looking at all the pretty furniture.  I found a man there. haha He seemed a little stiff though, plus I don’t think I could handle the Amish lifestyle 😉

-Then on Monday my mom and I went to Kings Dominion for the day! I’m currently writing a post about our day trip and should have it up soon!

-I got my hair done yesterday and was at the salon for a whopping 7 hours……yes you read that right! 7 hours. I have (well had now!) extermely thick and long hair. Like it was to my waist, maybe  longer! I’m naturally a blonde but had been dying my hair brown for the past year but decided I wanted to go back to blonde again.  My hairdresser is amazing, serioiusly she is a rockstar.  She had to lift the color out, treat it, highlight it, cut it, thin it out, blow it dry.  I was there all day! But it was worth it (even though it cost $300!!!!!!!!) because now it’s a heck of a lot shorter but it feels SO much lighter! I love the color too.  It’s much lighter and I’m definitely on my way back to being blonde 🙂

quite a difference from the picture above eh?!?

-I leave for Myrtle Beach on Sunday! I’m pretty excited as it’s the first vacation I’ve had since I turned 18 and went to Disney World! I’m hoping to get a tan to go with my new hair, but knowing my luck I’ll probably just burn :/

-I got new workout shoes! I got them at the Nike outlet and I’m in looove with them.

20130712-223528.jpg

yes I put my shoe on top of my laptop…I couldn’t find any better lighting!

-These things. Holy cow. They are the bane of my existence right now. They’re so good.

That’s all I have for now! Have a great week!

Monstrous Summer Shenanigans.

Hey there! Long time no talk huh? I swear I’ll get better at blogging on a regular schedule…someday 😉

On opening day my mother and I went to see Monsters University!! I was so pumped for this movie as I remember seeing Monsters Inc. when it came out many years ago.  Mike and Sully are just the cutest pair of friends and this movie definitely lived up to all the hype 🙂

Then last Thursday my mother and I drove to visit my grandmother for the day.  She lives about two hours away, right outside Charlottesville.  I hadn’t seen her since Christmas so it was nice to catch up! Due to family drama she’s pretty much the only relative I actually ever get to talk to. Sad right? What can you do though.  When I have a family someday, I want a big one, and one that gets along…hopefully!

Anyways, since we were so close to Charlottesville I convinced my mother that we HAD to go to Great Harvest bakery.  If you’re familiar with the healthy food/fitness blogging world you would know that the amazing Kath, of Kath Eats Real Food, and her husband own the Great Harvest bakery in Cville! I was hoping to spot either of them, plus Mazen too because they have the cutest baby I’ve ever seen, but no such luck! The bread and other goodies they had there were so amazing though which made up for it! We ended up getting a loaf of the Whole Grain Goodness, I got a Savannah bar, my mother got  the turtle bar, and we also got a bag of the Cville Cluster granola. It was all so good we had to get a lot obviously 🙂

Then this past weekend my dad and I went to a Frederick Keys baseball game.  The Frederick Keys are a minor league baseball team but their games are super fun to go to.  They’re very family friendly and they always have cute contests and games between innings.  One reason we went to this game was because it was Disney night! They were giving away a 3 night trip to Disney World and I wanted to win soooooooo badly but no such luck 😦 You should have seen me though, I literally wore everything Mickey possible, even Mickey ears.  Yeah, that’s how obsessed I am… Anyways the other reason we went too is because my amazing roommate from last year, Maya, is an intern for the Keys! So it was awesome getting to see her around the stadium doing her important intern stuff (like wearing a princess dress and dancing in front of everyone!!).

Other than those fun outings I’ve just been working a ton lately.  My job at Starbucks is pretty stressful and the days I have to open are my least favorite.  I have to get up at 3:20 am so I can be there at 4:30! Sometimes on those days I take two naps after my shift because I’m so sleepy. haha Definitely necessary!

Hope you have a great 4th of July! 🙂
